Setting the Course: A Cohort Journey of Learning for Equity and Justice
2024 Cohort Feedback Report
In 2024, the Anchorage Youth Development Coalition (AYDC) partnered with OMNI Institute to co-facilitate the "Setting the Course: A Cohort Journey of Learning for Equity and Justice" training series. This four-session program was designed to guide participants through foundational anti-racism topics, helping them develop a deeper understanding of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles. OMNI played a crucial role in shaping the curriculum, leading sessions that introduced key concepts such as social identity, privilege, and the Four I’s of Oppression. These concepts were then applied to AYDC’s core models, including Positive Youth Development, Social Emotional Learning, and Shared Risk and Protective Factors Theory, to ground participants in how these principles relate to their work.
OMNI's expertise in facilitating reflective practices enabled participants to engage deeply with the material, fostering a supportive learning environment where they could share personal stories, build trust, and explore anti-oppressive actions. The training culminated in a creative share-out session, where participants presented their plans to implement their newfound knowledge in tangible ways. Through this collaboration, OMNI not only enhanced the participants' understanding of equity and justice but also equipped them with the tools to drive meaningful change within their communities, leaving a lasting impact on AYDC's efforts to promote JEDI principles. This report provides a summary of the feedback received throughout the course from the cohort and provides a brief overview of the evaluation process used to measure growth and change
in the participants’ knowledge from the beginning through the end of the course.
