2019 OMNI Research Award
Since 1996, each year The OMNI Institute has recognized a graduating student from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work for outstanding contributions to research and evaluation in the social sector. Originally created by OMNI’s former CEO and Board Chairman, Jim Adams-Berger, the OMNI Research Award recipient is chosen by faculty at the GSSW to recognize the most outstanding evaluation research paper submitted during the academic year.
In previous years, award recipients have researched wide ranging topics such as the effectiveness of suicide prevention programs in Denver Public Schools and the implications of telemedicine for mental health care access in rural communities.
In 2019, we are honored to announce Hannah Wolfson as the recipient of the OMNI Research Award for her findings of barriers to providing Gender Affirming Care for transgender and non-binary patients at Colorado’s Salud integrated health clinics, which primarily serve low-income and Latinx clients along the Front Range and in Eastern Colorado. Hannah’s evaluation adopted a grounded theory qualitative approach to understanding the challenges faced by behavioral health and medical providers in offering Gender Affirming Care at four rural and urban/suburban clinics. Her evaluation report identifies five specific steps for moving the provision of Gender Affirming Care forward..
Hannah’s work clearly demonstrate OMNI’s core values of Excellence, through exemplary program evaluation scholarship, and Connection, by advocating for and contributing to social justice for underserved populations in Colorado.
